Living (justalittlebit) louder

Over the past few months, I’ve been wrestling a lot with the idea of blog identity. What is a blog for, who is a blog for, and how does one maintain an active blog without losing their mind.

Part of what I’ve been thinking about is the first thing people will always know about my blog: its name. The phrase “just a little bit louder” comes from the When Everything Meant Everything version of Matt Nathanson’s song “Pretty the World.

“Show me how pretty the world is, cuz I want something just a little bit louder.”

That’s how I try to live: a little bit shinier, glittery-er, bolder, braver, louder.. and this blog, unfortunately, hasn’t been a part of that. I use it haphazardly, with no real direction or purpose or intent. Ultimately, I want to share stories with people; not mine, but stories of other people. The things that other people are doing to live bigger and better stories, ways that other people are living just a little bit louder.

One of the stories I love so much is Lauren’s story with Pelican Merch. So often we think a big, bold story requires a restart or acquiring a plot of land that’s not already in our lives. I love that Lauren has combined her skills and what she loves with a heart to serve.

For awhile I’ve been meaning to buy something from Pelican – I’m working hard on putting my money where my mouth is and not saying “cool idea!” but to invest monetarily in the dreams and stories of my friends – and when I got around to it, I knew THIS was the shirt to buy.

(Parker wanted to be in a picture, I guess..)

It’s perfect, right?

On a slightly related note, Andrew and I have been discussing what makes a person interesting. We have a silly fear that we are boring. So I took to Twitter, and loved what Brandon had to say about what makes someone interesting…

Part of the reason I struggle with a blog identity is because I’m fearful of what people will think – of me, of my life, my thoughts.. and I’ve decided it’s time to get over my fear and worry and let the content of this blog reflect its name.

3 questions:
1. How do you live just a little bit louder?
2. What makes a person interesting?
3. Who is the most interesting person you know?
