Today as I watch the news, all I want is to go back to last Tuesday, stand at the back of the chapel, and hug every single one of them on their way out of the room. I want to look into their eyes and tell them that they are precious and loved, that they are important to me, to our church, and to Christ.
We are all great at responding to the immediate news of tragedy; we are quick to say we are praying, to make suggestions about how to fix things, and to get in stupid internet fights about what went wrong. But response to tragedy can’t actually be a response to tragedy if we want to make a difference.
If we want to make a difference, we need to get into the business of preventative maintenance.
Not a habit, not a side-project, not a hobby.
We need to get in the business of it, because we want our work to turn out a profit, so we have to be diligent.
It’s not easy. It requires sacrifice, commitment and a crap ton of love.
But knowing that your business is building healthy, loved human beings…
that makes it all worth it.
