That one day I met Matthew Gray Gubler.

Let me set the stage. In the Spring of 2010, I slept on the couch of the apartment of 5 girls who lived in SoCal. One day I thought “I know. I’ll try to meet Matthew Gray Gubler.” You know. Spencer Reid from Criminal Minds. AKA the best character that’s ever existed AKA the only actor that I think is a complete dreamboat. Just saying. I looked up the filming of Criminal Minds, found a day they were filming, and tried to convince someone to go with me… but with no luck. Not only did I find no stalking partner, but they also talked me out of it.

Zoom through Summer. One confusing Saturday evening, I moved down to SoCal. I had $20 to my name. But you know… YOLO. I’d lined up a job interview the following Tuesday at Universal Studios, and had plans to attend an open mic that evening. After getting a job offer at Universal Studios, I had some time to kill and decided to look up a Starbucks to reply to some e-mails at.

As I was sitting down to start my computer someone walked in the door. I looked up and thought “that boy is SO cute!.. yeah, that boy looks like Matthew Gray Gu.. um THAT IS MATTHEW GRAY GUBLER!!!

So naturally, being full of 0 shame I ran up to him and said “HELLO I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.” He reached out his hand and said “Hi! I’m Matthew!” I shook his hand and said “Right, I just said I know that.”

and I proceeded to talk his ear off for ten minutes. about how much I love him. and how he is my favorite actor. and how once I wanted to go to a Criminal Minds screening but my friends talked me out of it and said I’d never even get to meet him anyway and I was so excited to tell them I met him and could we please take a picture together?

and he is really nice. So we did take a picture together.

He even drew me a picture of a squid.

The kids at my church are starting to use social media (pray for me) and one of them discovered that there’s a picture of me and Spencer Reid and wants to know all about it. I was thinking about how it was one of the coolest things that’s ever happened to me and as far as I’m concerned, everyone needs to be reminded of it ALL THE TIME because it’s not often someone can say they met THEIR FAVORITE ACTOR in Starbucks.
